Short version: we collect as little as we can. If you sign up, we keep your name and email so you can sign in. If you buy a checklist, Polar handles the payment and we never see your card. If you contact us, we get your message. We don't sell your information, we don't run advertising trackers, and our site analytics don't use cookies.

Who we are

Constructor (constructor.net.au) is an ACCELX website run by Anthony Painter, 8 Technology Drive, Arundel QLD 4214, Australia. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Constructor.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

If you just read the site: no personal information is needed. Our analytics count visits without cookies and without identifying you (see Analytics and cookies). Like any website, the servers that deliver our pages log technical details such as your IP address and browser type.

If you sign up as a free member: your name and email address, when you signed up, when you last signed in, and how you found us (for example, the page you signed up from or the website that referred you). There's no password, because we email you a one-time sign-in link.

If you buy a checklist: Polar, our checkout provider, collects your name, email, billing country and payment details. We receive your name, email and what you bought, so we can deliver it and help with any problems. We never see or store your card details.

If you contact us: your name, your email and whatever you write in your message.

If you open a member document or checklist preview: the document services we use (DocSend and Heyzine) record that the document was viewed. Our DocSend links shouldn't ask for your email. If one does, please let us know and we'll fix it. If you do enter an email there, DocSend stores it and shows it in our viewing reports, but we don't use it for anything or add it to any list.

How we use it

  • To give you access to member resources and send your sign-in links
  • To deliver checklists you buy and help with download, refund or access questions
  • To reply to messages you send us
  • To understand which pages are useful, in aggregate, so we can improve the site
  • To keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse

We don't send newsletters or marketing emails. We only email you to sign you in, or about something you've bought or asked us.

We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of services to run the site. They handle your information on our behalf, only for the purposes below.

  • Ghost (Ghost Foundation) hosts the website and member accounts, sends sign-in emails and runs our cookie-free site statistics (processed by its analytics partner Tinybird). Handles: name, email, sign-in activity, signup source, anonymous page views. Where: UK, USA and EU.
  • Polar (Polar Software Inc.) runs checkout for the checklists as merchant of record, handling payment and tax. Handles: name, email, billing details, purchase. Where: USA and EU.
  • Formspree delivers contact-form messages to our inbox. Handles: name, email, message, IP address. Where: USA.
  • DocSend (Dropbox) hosts member documents. Handles: document views, and your email if you enter one. Where: USA.
  • Heyzine shows the checklist preview flipbooks. Handles: preview views, IP address. Where: EU.
  • Umami provides anonymous, cookie-free visit statistics. Handles: page views, with no personal identifiers. Where: EU.
  • Google Fonts, jsDelivr and Unsplash deliver fonts, scripts and some images. Handles: your IP address, when your browser loads them. Where: global.

Links to social media (X, Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn) and certificate checks (ScoreDetect) only send you to those sites when you click them. Their own privacy policies then apply.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.

Overseas disclosure

Most of the services above store data outside Australia, mainly in the USA, UK and EU. We choose established providers with their own privacy and security commitments. By using the site, signing up or buying, you understand your information may be handled overseas.

Analytics and cookies

Our site statistics (Ghost's built-in analytics, powered by Tinybird, and Umami) don't use cookies and don't track you across other websites. They record things like the page viewed, the referring website, and your country, device and browser type, so we can see how many people read a page, not who you are.

Member sources: when you sign up, Ghost notes which page you signed up on and which website (if any) sent you. It does this by keeping a short list of the pages you viewed in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, until you sign up. This is saved with your member record so we can see what brings people to Constructor.

Outbound links: when you click a link from our site to another website, we may add a tag such as "?ref=constructor.net.au" so that site knows the visit came from us. It doesn't contain any information about you.

Emails: we don't track whether our emails are opened or which links in them are clicked.

We use only essential cookies:

  • Sign-in cookies from Ghost keep you signed in as a member.
  • Checkout cookies from Polar may be set while you buy a checklist, to complete the payment securely.

We don't use advertising or social media tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, signing in and checkout may not work. Clearing your browser's local storage removes the member-source page list.

How long we keep it

  • Member accounts: until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Purchase records: for as long as tax and consumer law require (generally five to seven years).
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted when no longer needed.
  • Anonymous statistics: kept in aggregate.

Keeping it secure

Our site runs over HTTPS, member sign-in uses one-time links instead of passwords, and payments are handled entirely by Polar. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect and who can access it. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Access or correct your details. Sign in, then open Account, or contact us.
  • Delete your account. Contact us and we'll delete your member account and associated data, except records we must keep by law, such as purchase records.
  • Ask what we hold about you. Contact us and we'll respond within 30 days.
  • Read without an account. Most of the site is free to read without giving us anything.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first and we'll try to fix it. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Children

Constructor is written for adults building or buying a home. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if the services we use or the way we handle information changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
